Another Mystery Photo - Random # 3

Remember this mystery photo from a post last week ...

Greece 217, edited

There were guesses for tamarind (close), vanilla, almonds, macadamias, and a few others that I've forgotten, but the correct answer (guessed by Natalia at Gatti Fili e Farina) was carob.

Interested in knowing a little bit more about carob?  You can find some useful information here in Wikipedia.

And now for another mystery photo.  Clue  - I took this photo at La Boqueria market in Barcelona.

  1. It looks like a pile of feet to me, nothing I'd ever want to eat!

  2. Hi Clare - it does rather look like lots of feet, doesn't it. Apparently they are very yummy - quite a delicacy - I haven't had the opportunity to try them, but I think I would if I got the chance.

  3. Sue! The carob was a surprise to me! Very cool! I didn't know they grew it in Greece! This picture, I want to say its sea cuccumers or those tiny little sea anemones. It so looks of animal origin! I love all the new stuff I am learning on your blog! Thanks for posting on the two for tuesday recipe blog hop! :) HUGS! Alex@amoderatelife

  9. I love this game, it's so much fun. I know that I'm often guilty of not knowing what a food looks like while it's growing. What is it this week, turmeric root would be my stab in the dark. Thanks for bringing your mystery food to Two for Tuesday.

  11. Anonymous - yes you are right they are barnacles. Goose barnacles, or gooseneck barnacles, also known as percebes to the Spanish.
