I also recommend not skimping on the butter when you dot the top. And, I usually eat it with a few dollops of greek yogurt but I love the idea of whipped ricotta too! It reminds me of a plum cake recipe that I received from a German friend - maybe the universality of this type of cake is what made you feel nostalgic! Thanks so much for posting the recipe - can't wait to give it a try. sabotierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02228459725111944040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919774181554016884.post-28034750289419002062013-02-10T09:15:04.497+13:002013-02-10T09:15:04.497+13:00I've just read your post and this recipe remin...I've just read your post and this recipe reminds me of a plum cake recipe from Germany that I just love. It's a GREAT torta rustica and it is especailly good with red wine. I plan on making it again for a Tuscan dinner party on Jan 6 2013. It's a birthday party..what a humble birthday cake but it IS in keeping with "la cucina porvera", si? When we had workers on the property I would put this cake outside for the workers with a litre of red wine and it was GONE when I returned. For the party I'm going to serve it with a dollop of home made ricotta flavored with hazelnut liquor. And not the full complement of cloves.Marthahttp://www.thetuscanheart.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919774181554016884.post-43855521344366148402012-10-16T15:36:42.903+13:002012-10-16T15:36:42.903+13:00Thank you so much - I'm pleased you liked it -...Thank you so much - I'm pleased you liked it - and thanks for the reminder that I need to make it again Couscous & Consciousnesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06616224893242380904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919774181554016884.post-12376138865403864612012-10-14T13:28:54.336+13:002012-10-14T13:28:54.336+13:00I made this today and we love it! Your cake looks lovely and I'm glad it's not "rubbery"! :o) I loved reading your post. You brought back some nice memories. Thanks so much for linking up to Cookbook Sundays and have a great day (or night!).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15363106628279020217noreply@blogger.com
