I love its aniseedy taste, and I liked that it held a bit more bite than onion does, giving a really nice flavour and textural compliment to the fish and the capers.

Joanne - as you say, nothing wildly unexpected or exciting about this, but a good reliable dish, and much of it could be prepared in advance, which is always an added bonus.

Kayte - I hope you give this one a go, I'm sure you'll like it. Like you, I'm not always making things at the same time as the rest of the group either - because I'm at the "bottom of the world", what's available here seasonally doesn't always coincide with the picked list. So I often do a dish that was done 6 months ago - which gives me the added advantage of being able to go back to other members' posts and pick up any of their helpful hints.

SueCouscous & Consciousnesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06616224893242380904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919774181554016884.post-67652381917840237362010-04-23T00:57:16.520+12:002010-04-23T00:57:16.520+12:00I have got to get to some of these recipes. For some reason, my budget and what is on sale is not matching up with Angela's picks very well. This one, however, is very doable! Yours looks wonderful. I have never had brill...how fun to see it and hear about it.Kaytehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04892296035070233639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919774181554016884.post-24545456190063148922010-04-23T00:17:44.826+12:002010-04-23T00:17:44.826+12:00The fennel is a fantastic substitute,The fennel is a fantastic substitute,angela@spinachtigerhttp://www.spinachtiger.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919774181554016884.post-646143326303514682010-04-23T00:05:16.404+12:002010-04-23T00:05:16.404+12:00This is definitely a great dish for when you want ...This is definitely a great dish for when you want something that is going to be reliably tasty. I have never had brill so will have to add it to the "someday" list ;-)Deb in Hawaiihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12753889028487254096noreply@blogger.com
